Monitoring and Evaluation, and Database

Monitoring and evaluation is an important component of strategic planning to achieve long term impacts in biodiversity conservation. It reflects the progress against the articulated targets of the organization and shows gaps thereof. Development , Research and Monitoring (DRM) unit was established in 2003, which thereafter expanded discretely into Development and Marketing unit, Conservation Science unit subsuming research, and Monitoring and Database unit.

Monitoring and Database unit is responsible for monitoring and evaluation of overall projects and programs. The unit employs tools such as logframe, database, participatory monitoring protocols to keep abreast of the progress and achievements made so far. WWF Network provides support on WWF Program and Projects Management Standards (PPMS), which is aided by the tools such as Miradi.

Database is conceived to maintain a one-window access to the data at the central level. Data from field is finally rolled up to the cent r e and thus captures activity-level data. Conservation measures project was piloted in the Terai Arc Landscape (Nepal ) and a simple blueprint was designed to capture the outcome level monitoring for biodiversity conservation and sustainable livelihoods.

The unit is supported by the GIS laboratory for the spatial and attribute information on the indicators designed so far.
Besides, the unit carries out planning at the central level with the departments and produces the PO report for the network at the end of each fiscal year.

Small Grants Program
The unit coordinates Small Grants Program of WWF Nepal and provides partial support to the students for their dissertation work. Each year nine to ten students are selected for the program.
